The government has decided to introduce online tender submission through Electronic Government Procurement (EGP) or e-tendering by June 2010. This new system will be established in all government institutions in order to make the procurement system more transparent.

In the first phase of this initiative, electronic tendering system will be introduced in four government departments - Roads and Highways Department, Local Government and Engineering Department, Water Development Board and Rural Electrification Board. By October 2010, all other government institutions will come under this system.

The government is hopeful that the e-tendering system will effectively put an end to tender manipulation and criminal activities centering it; saving cost and improving the quality of government work significantly.
